Why do teeth turn yellow even though you brush your teeth regularly?

Excerpted from the Cleveland Clinic, there are several causes of yellow teeth, such as:
1. Consuming food or drinks that can leave stains on teeth, such as coffee, tea, wine, and potatoes and pasta.
2. Have a smoking habit that leaves stains on your teeth.
3. Not maintaining good dental health, such as not brushing your teeth regularly, not using dental floss, and rarely going to the dentist for check-ups can cause plaque buildup so that your teeth look yellower.
4. Having certain health conditions that will interfere with the growth of enamel or the outer surface of the teeth, causing the teeth to look yellow, such as having an infection while pregnant.
5. Taking certain medications that can make teeth turn yellow, such as antihistamines and using mouthwash containing chlorhexidine and cetylpyridinium chloride.
6. Using certain materials when carrying out dental treatment, such as dental amalgam restorations which can make teeth look grayish.
7. As you age, the enamel layer becomes thinner and makes the darker dentin layer beneath it more visible.
8. Have genetic factors that make teeth look yellower because they have a thinner enamel layer.
9. Excessive exposure to fluoride, especially when the teeth are still developing, can trigger thinning of the enamel and the appearance of white stains on the teeth. 10. Experiencing trauma, such as a blow to the mouth area, results in impaired enamel formation which makes the teeth look yellower.
Some of these factors can make your teeth look yellower even if you brush your teeth diligently.
